victoria, honey, we need to talk.
the royal treatment ♡ entry no. 005
apparently, angels are optional now.
well, well, well.
the victoria's secret fashion show has come and gone, and naturally, i have opinions.
quite a few, actually.
first of all, let me make something perfectly clear. i LOVE victoria's secret. the glamour, the angels, the wings, the hair, the drama. its everything a girl with expensive taste and absolutely no intention of being low maintenance could possibly want.
which is precisely why i take this matter so seriously.
lets begin with something positive, shall we?
THE HAIR.
finally. FINALLY.
the blowouts were back, and i could've cried tears of joy.
last year, there were entirely too many slicked back hairstyles for my liking. and listen, i appreciate a sleek bun just as much as the next girl, but honey, this is victoria's secret. NOT DIOR.
(although, for the record, i adore dior.)
i want volume. i want curls. i want hair that looks like it requires an entire glam team and several cans of hairspray.
thankfully, someone received the memo.
now, lets discuss the runway.
remember all that teasing about glitter floors?
because i definitely do.
imagine my excitement. a sparkling runway. the return of that ridiculous, over the top glamour that made the original shows iconic.
and then they put what looked like a glass platform over it.
excuse me?
THE GLITTER WAS RIGHT THERE.
why tease something so fabulous only to make it practically invisible?
i'm beginning to think someone at victoria's secret has a personal vendetta against glitter..
apparently, victoria's secret decided the glitter runway could return, provided nobody actually walked on the glitter?
and while were discussing things that were missing, WHERE WERE THE WINGS?
adriana lima, doutzen kroes, barbara palvin, alesandra ambrosio.
these are ICONS.
and yes, the angels had wings. some were absolutely gorgeous. but compared to the enormous, extravagant masterpieces we used to see? honey, i wanted MORE.
im sorry, but if you're bringing back the angels, i expect ANGELS. not a modest little accessory.
i want feathers. i want diamonds, i want wings so big that the model practically needs a building permit.
is that unreasonable?
probably.
do i care?
absolutely not.
now before anyone accuses me of being impossible to please, lets discuss MING XI.
OH. MY. GOD.
the woman looked absolutely breathtaking.
those huge metallic gold wings? the movement? the DRAMA?
THAT is what i came for.
and knowing about her infamous fall on the runway years ago made this moment even more gorgeous. a comeback, a lovely outfit, and wings that could practically qualify as architecture?
i was obsessed.
also, the kylie jenner appearance?
HELLO???
a little unexpected celebrity moment never hurt anybody. i love a surprise, especially when it gives me something to gossip about afterward.
unfortunately, not every surprise was so delightful.
which brings me to performances.
now, i understand that musical guest have always been apart of the vs fashion show. i know this. i respect this.
but somewhere along the way, i started feeling like i was watching a concert with occasional lingerie advertisements.
and honey, thats not what i tuned in for.
megan thee stallion? loved her
tate mcrae? ill give credit where its due. she put on a good performance.
but the rest of the lineup simply wasn't for me.
and can we PLEASE discuss megan moroney moving around the runway?
because watching her weave between models with those huge wings passing by gave me anxiety.
at one point, it looked like she came close to colliding with a model.
GIRL.
the models are WORKING.
let them walk.
im all for a good performance, but the runway belongs to the angels. the singers are supposed to complement the show, not become obstacles.
and then..
THE PINK COLLECTION.
i was having such a lovely time.
the main vs outfits? gorgeous. glamourous. everything was going relatively well.
and suddenly, i was confronted with a red beanie, green leg warmers, a varsity jacket, and a leopard print bag.
i beg your FINEST pardon?
i understand that pink is supposed to be younger, more playful, and a little more casual.
i GET IT.
but there's a difference between playful and looking like you got dressed during a power outage.
where was the cohesion? where was the fantasy? where was the part where i was supposed to want to wear any of it?
i went from admiring elaborate wings and beautiful lingerie to questioning whether somebody had wandered onto the runway on their way to a college football game.
it was quite the transition.
and the thing is, i KNOW vs can do better.
because when the show was good, oh it was SO good.
the blowouts were gorgeous. the main collection had so many beautiful looks. ming xi was unforgettable. the nostalgia was there.
but i want MORE.
more glamour. more extravagant wings. more sparkle. more attention to the models. and perhaps a little less of whatever was happening in the pink department.
i don't need victoria's secret to live in the past
i just need her to remember who she is.
because honey, you built an empire on fantasy.
ACT LIKE IT.
xoxo,
the princess ♡
